Thyme For Truth

In my own journey and struggle to find a Healthy Lifestyle, I’ve found myself asking why did God create our human bodies needing and craving foods.  Genesis 1: 26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”  I know our Creator created us in His image.  Genesis 1?29 – Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it.  They will be yours for food.  And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground-everything that has the breath of life in it – I give every green plant for food.  And it was so.” Wow, what an amazing gift.  He gave us all these wonderful plants to eat and taste and how amazing and creative He is to make them smell and taste differently and unique.

Genesis 2:16 And the Lord God commanded in the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”  In the beginning, food was an intricate piece to our Spiritual health.  The obedience was the spiritual component, but the physical component was linked to food.  There are countless passages in Leviticus, Proverbs, and other books that talk about the struggle we have with food.  The result of sin entering this world was The Garden of Eden was closed off and then Lord God said to the woman: Genesis 3:16 “I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.  To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree…”Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life.  It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field.  By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are to dust you will return.”

So as you can see, food isn’t easy and will never be easy. Eating the true food God designed our bodies to eat takes work.  Easy, convenience, and made man products that have the appearance of food is damaging our bodies to a much greater depth than I believe any of us realize.

I’m not a theologian or philosopher, but I share these truths because I believe the lens you look through daily effects every aspect of your life.  I teach my kids that God gave us a Garden to eat from and every fruit and vegetable was created differently because He loves us!  How boring would life be without the Rainbow of God’s creation?  I desire to teach my family to appreciate all of the foods He created and learn to prepare them in a way that is glorifying to God!
